Tornado in Normandy?! Oct 23, 2022

A few photos of the storm damage from a tornado (very unusual in Normandy) that passed through the area last week (Oct 23). Luckily the damage here was only 4 downed trees and a mirror (which broke due to a slamming window). Within 5 kilometers of the chateau, there were several roofs torn off garages and houses and three tractor trailer trucks overturned. We lost power for 22 hours. The storm even made the national news. During a 14 km walk with a couple of new friends in the area, we took several photographs of where the twister touched down.

Almost Dutch! Maureillas Las Illas, France January 2024

 It is hard to believe our time house sitting in Maureillas Las Illas is coming to an end in just a few weeks! We love this area of France. The mountains, the proximity to the Mediterranean, the mild climate, and wonderful people we have met. Last week I celebrated my 58th birthday with Jean Paul, a local friend. It was an impromptu decision made at a weekly French/English language exchange when we discovered we shared the same birth date. More than 20 people showed up for the "Auberge Espagnole" style (potluck) gathering at his house and we celebrated for more than 5 hours. The big news...last week I finally heard back from the IND (Immigration and Naturalsatiedienst) and my application to become a Dutch citizen has finally been approved! This has been a three year process which started with moving to France and getting a "Titre de Sejour". Overdue Vroom Update - South of France November 2023

It has been a long while since I wrote a post. "Stuck?" in the Netherlands

  Despite the unexpected shifting landscapes of our plans we have a lot to be thankful for. First and foremost is the hospitality of our friends Clementine and Paul who have gracefully let us extend our stay for an unexpected few days. We arrived in Cadier en Keer near to Maastricht with an appointment to have the local garage fix a few items on the camper before we departed to Spain. When the garage had to order a part they did not have in stock, two extra days were added to our visit. Looking on the bright side, this gave us extra time to enjoy the beautiful area surrounding Maastricht and catch up with our friends. The area is peppered with limestone formations and interesting caves due to extensive mining in the past. We were all set to go this morning when on the news last night, new travel restrictions were announced.
