We had a somewhat rainy day trip exploring Lisbon. It turns out that April is a reliable month for rain in this area. Riding bikes from the graffiti adorned campground located inside the walls of an old ammunition factory, we headed out early in the morning in a steady light drizzle of rain.

There are numerous large squares and lovely cobbled walking streets throughout the city. Every side street opens a new adventure.
King João's long reign of 48 years, the most extensive of all Portuguese monarchs, saw the beginning of Portugal's overseas expansion

 Praca do Rossio - Rossio Square. The wavy paving is called "calçada portuguesa" (the paving style traditionally used in Portugal and many of its colonies). One of Lisbon's main squares since the middle ages.

This tree lined Avenida da Liberdade built in the 19th century and is Lisbon's mile long upscale shopping boulevard. We walked past all the expensive designer stores!

Praça do Comércio was completely rebuilt after the devastating 1755 earthquake and subsequent tsunami


This eclectic styled palace, Palacete Chafariz d'el Rei has been renovated into a fancy hotel.
